I realized yesterday that I haven't attached any pictures to my blogs yet. I did post some on facebook, but some of you may not look at those so I hope these paint a picture of my experience here for you.
Here is our house- Villa 38- in the Mulungushi Village. It's a very nice and safe area here in Lusaka. It's feeling more and more like home! :)
We spent our first Sunday in Africa at the Tree of Life where we house over 100 children permanently. They live in houses that the Lord has graciously given them through giving hearts of people all over America. Each home allows for 14 children, who live in the most dire circumstances, to have a second chance at living the life God intended for them to have. The orphan community is a place where broken souls are restored. The children have house parents who live, cook, and raise the children to be godly men and women. Every Sunday, the Tree of Life pastor shares a message in their pavilion. This was the first Sunday of the year and we were surprised to see the mighty celebration the house parents and children had after church. Little Kapalu is having the time of his life as he dances to the amazing praise music that blared through the village.
I was so excited to see them dancing in a line together. They were laughing, joking, and eliminating with joy. It was the most beautiful picture to see.
These four precious boys bring SO much joy in my life. From left to right: Joseph, Joshua, Jonathan, and John. Oh the J's. :)
During our first week of work, Greer took us to the construction site where the Legacy Center will be built. Here is Greer with the site engineer, Sampson. It's SO exciting to see actual progress! The Legacy Center will be the location for Camp LIFE every year and 30,000 orphans will attend a week long camp where they will be loved on by servants of the Lord! The building is going to be the best banquet hall Lusaka has ever seen! The neatest thing about it's location is that it's on a hill top over looking miles and miles of African soil. Can't you picture beautiful little orphans, who have only seen the filthy compound around them, looking out into the distance as a servant of God tells them they are royalty. Wow. It's incredible.
The most amazing part of last week was when we were able to deliver bunk beds to the Community Resource Centers. These are youth centers that are located in the compounds as a refuge for children who need help. We also house children at these locations; we currently have 114!! These children were taken from their situations and placed in a house with other orphans who can grow with them daily. This past week, we brought some bunk beds to different CRC's so more children can move in!! The Hughey boys joined us in our service project and were SUCH good helpers! The Lord is not only using them as vessels to help the orphans, but I'm so blessed to watch their precious hearts grow to love serving others. It's the neatest thing!
